Fat Transfer to Face
Fat transfer to the face is one of the latest innovations in anti-aging.
It is also known as facial fat rejuvenation, fat grafting, and fat injections.
WHY FAT INJECTIONS?
Men and women who want to restore volume on the face are choosing fat injections instead of dermal fillers.
Why? Because the results with fat are affordable, minimally-invasive and permanent!
Additionally, the healing properties of fat cells will often improve texture, color and appearance of the skin.
AREAS TREATED WITH FAT TRANSFER
Fat cells can be injected in just about any area a dermal filler is injected including:
- Nasolabial folds (between the nose and the lips),
- Marionette lines (between the lips and chin),
- Under the eyes
HOW DOES FAT TRANSFER WORK?
Fat transfer or fat grafting is the process of harvesting fat from one part of the body and re-introducing it to another area.
It is one of the most natural ways to dramatically improve your appearance using your own fat.
HOW DOES FAT GRAFTING WORK?
Dr. Schuster and Dr. Kovacs can harness the healing properties of fat for total body transformation including the face.
Fat grafting is a multi-step process with minimal discomfort.
HARVESTING FAT CELLS
First, Dr. Schuster and Dr. Kovacs harvest a small amount of fat cells from your body using a device called a “cannula”.
Although fat can be harvested from any area where excess fat is stored, common areas include
Because this process is identical to liposuction it is common for patients to take advantage of the occasion to fully remove any unwanted fat from a particular area.
PURIFYING FAT CELLS
The second phase is to purify the harvested fat cells to ensure only healthy cells are re-introduced to the face.
This process occurs at the same time of the fat harvesting procedure. As the fat is extracted, it goes goes through a filtering process that extracts any blood and impurities.
FAT INJECTIONS TO THE FACE
Lastly, the fat cells are re-introduce, using a cannula, to strategic areas of the face to restore more supple, youthful contours from years ago.
Re-introducing fat cells via cannula is an advanced technique that minimizes the chances of bruising and excessive swelling that can occur using injection needles.
RESULTS ARE IMMEDIATE
Like dermal fillers, you will see the results as soon as the procedure is completed. However, final results may take a few weeks to reveal.
Final results depend on the handling and survival rate of the fat cells, as well as, how quickly the swelling subsides.
This is why it is crucial to choose an experienced plastic surgeon - like doctors Schuster and Kovacs - to perform your fat transfer.
RECOVERY FROM FAT TRANSFER
Fat transfer is an outpatient procedure and complications from the procedure are rare. Plan on taking off 7 to 10 days from work and social activities while you recover..
Swelling and bruising are common and peak on days 2 or 3. Bruising typically subsides during the first week. Mild swelling may persist for an additional week.
Although the fat transfer procedure is almost painless, you will experience some discomfort or pain during recovery which is controlled with medication. The discomfort or pain will begin to decrease after 48 hours.
You will receive additional post-procedure instructions from our office to ensure your recovery is the most comfortable possible.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR FAT TRANSFER
Any man or woman, in good health, looking to restore volume in the face is a candidate.
Since fat grafting requires the harvesting of your own fat, so it is necessary that you have enough fat in another area to extract.
As with any surgical or minimally-invasive procedure, patients prone to infections or with auto-immune disorders may not be good candidates as the risks of poor healing are higher. A complete medical history will be taken prior to any procedure to ensure eligibility.
